Pehchaan The Street School is a non-profit organisation founded in 2015 with the sole aim of providing a better education to underprivileged students at centres across Delhi-NCR.

Our aim has always been to make sure they have a level playing field in an increasingly competitive world.

More than a decade has passed since we started. Thanks to the gracious nature of our volunteers and patrons, we have been able to perform for so long, despite the hindrances coming along the way.

The Flawed Aspect of Conventional Learning

Books have always been the core part of the Indian education system. For ages, we have been taught to study them page by page, and then write our understanding in a notebook to memorise it.

Schools in India go all-out on this way of education. And one can’t blame them either. There is a valid saying in society: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

But come 2026, we need to ask ourselves: Is it truly the correct way to teach in this day and age? We already know the answer to it. All that’s needed is to muster up the courage and recognise the elephant in the room.

Why the Need for Change?

In the last decade, we have seen rapid digitalisation happening in real time in our lives. Smartphones have become an everyday necessity more than a fancy and rare gadget that a few used to have as a flex.

Even our trivial day-to-day payments are now made online, making it all the more necessary to get familiar with the world behind the screen.

Even if all of this is set aside, the job market now relies heavily on computers. While we don’t need to have the deepest knowledge of it, knowing the basic skills is now the bare minimum to achieve any chance of survival.

The era of Artificial Intelligence has already dawned. If we don’t ensure digital literacy for our future generations, especially the underprivileged, there is a near 100% chance that they will get left behind.

How Pehchaan is Fueling The Change in its Classrooms

At Pehchaan The Street School, we believe in making sure that each of our student, regardless of their privilege, gets access to the kind of education that makes their life easier in the future.

Hence, in an attempt to keep up with the nation’s digital revolution, we have set up 12 computers at our Noida Centre. Apart from this, we have also launched regular and structured digital literacy classes for the young minds, and the result has been as clear as ever.

As soon as the power buttons were pressed, there emerged a visible spark in the students’ eyes. For them, those weren’t mere screens. They were the gateway to a much better opportunity.

The first keys they clicked on the keyboard made it all too real. It wasn’t something they could only see from afar, but a daily part of their lives which was here to stay.

Will This be Enough?

Digital literacy is the only way forward in education. There is no way to sugarcoat it.

While our efforts have ignited hopes in many young minds, there is still a long way left to go.

If every child gets access to a computer, they can have all the information they need right at their fingertips. The internet has made sure of that. But is it all they need? The answer is no.

We have to make sure that each student not only has access to computers but also a working knowledge of the common software used on them. Drafting documents, creating spreadsheets, and making presentations are skills that they would have to use in their jobs across industries.

It is our responsibility to give them a fair shot. Thanks to our generous volunteers and patrons, we have been doing the best we can. Only your continued support can ensure that these students don’t get left behind in an ever-competitive AI powered job-market.
