Pehchaan The Street School, founded in 2015, has been working tirelessly to provide quality education to underprivileged students across various regions of Delhi-NCR. The collective power of the citizenry, along with the goodwill of volunteers, has ensured that the gap between a child’s zeal to learn and the opportunities they get becomes as small as possible.
Does the Past Ever Leave Us?
When someone moves forward with their lives, the places that defined a major part of their journey don’t just disappear overnight. They leave a major impression on them, stimulating the strongest of urges to return and give back to the familiar environment that made them grow as a better person.
The same is the case with the noble souls who have worked with us in the past as either volunteers or interns. Moving on is a necessary part of life, but taking a moment to look back and contribute is what makes the difference.
For 11 years, Pehchaan The Street School has relied solely on the support of the public to be able to continue its work. Creating a level playing field for the young minds is no easy task, especially without any kind of institutionalised or government support to speak of.
We have witnessed volunteers and interns joining us, contributing meaningfully to create an impact, and then moving ahead with their lives while still remaining attached to the root cause for life.
The Heartfelt Contribution at GTB 2 Centre
There can’t be a better example of this than Unnati Mishra, a former intern with the strongest willpower to give back to the cause in any way possible.
While birthdays for most people are a means to celebrate with their close family, Unnati decided to go several steps ahead, deciding to include her family at Pehchaan’s GTB 2 Centre in the merriment of her niece’s birthday.
The occasion was converted into a moment of pure joy and learning for the students, as several learning kits containing file folders, notebooks, registers, pens, and colour kits were distributed.
Not only that, refreshments were provided to make sure the young minds as well as the volunteers stay satiated and full of energy throughout the day.
Although a motivational session may sound cliché to many, Unnati decided to break the taboo and organise a lively session for the students, along with an interaction to help them navigate through the turbulent waters of the vast ocean called life.
Why Do These Collaborations Matter?
Collaborations like these may not look like big deals if viewed through a cold and monotonal viewpoint. But these gestures are all it takes to bring about an impactful change in someone’s life. This change happens in more ways than one can imagine.
In the short term, the children get to spend a day full of learning and enjoyment, which boosts both their analytical and creative perspectives, helping them immensely.
But the long-term benefits are even more wonderful. These students get to see the empathy present in the world. These gestures build trust in their minds regarding the good that is integrated into the very core of society.
This transforms them into individuals with high Emotional Quotients. They believe in kindness and ultimately return to pay their dues towards the next generation in the very same way, creating a beautiful cycle that’s near impossible to break.
