Founded in 2015, Pehchaan The Street School is a non-profit organisation working tirelessly and with utter dedication to provide free and life-changing education to underprivileged children.

The only goal in our mind is to give them a fair opportunity and a level playing field in this society so that they can work their way up the ladder of success and contribute to the nation, each in their own wonderful ways.

Why are Books Important?

Books to an adult may just be a collection of pages sewn together with a vibrant cover at the top. But to young learners, especially those who lack the resources, books are like passports.

They are their very own portal to a better and brighter life. The text written in those very same pages often stimulates the brain like nothing else could. For any student, books are a complete treasure chest of knowledge just waiting to be opened.

Rather than staying on the paper, that very knowledge makes its way back into society through the actions of the reader.

The Problem with Literature in Indian Society

Our Indian society has a huge problem when it comes to perceiving literary education. In our world, disciplines like mathematics and science often take centre stage, leaving little to no room for literature.

If someone shows an interest, they are told about the so-called lack of future in the field, and subsequently advised to focus more on the above-mentioned disciplines.

While it may have been normalised in society, such practice over time has been chipping away at the critical thinking abilities of the students, turning them into robots more than human beings with emotions.

Are Reading Habits Truly Necessary for Students?

The all-round development of a child is very necessary. A young mind is like a dry sponge, ready to soak in whatever it is dipped in.

Hence, it is very necessary that a child is exposed to the vibrant world of books at the right age. This leads to the formation of healthy reading habits. While it may seem basic, in a world filled with short-form content, having an interest in reading makes all the difference.

The world’s attention span is getting shorter by the day, making it our responsibility to ensure that this does not get passed on to the next generation.

The Book Distribution Drive: Pehchaan’s Phenomenal Collaboration at the Noida Centre

We at Pehchaan The Street School understand this very well and are committed to building healthy reading habits amongst our students.

A deep and transformative collaboration with ‘Story with Saba’ at the Noida Centre to organise a massive book donation drive for the students turned fruitful in all the right ways.

Young learners up to class 8th became part of the drive and received age-appropriate reading material to expand their horizons beyond the closed four walls of the classroom.

Those weren’t mere reading materials for the students. Those were highly valuable stories which would keep them engaged for hours and open their minds to the endless possibilities that the world has to offer.

The books would spark their curiosity about life and encourage them to strive for betterment in every way possible to make the best out of their lives. The generous act of kindness by ‘Story with Saba’ goes a long way towards establishing mutual trust and respect in society.

The students will remember this in their hearts and won’t hesitate to give back to the community when the right time finally arrives.
